About AUST
Advancing Scientific Excellence Through Research, Innovation, and Leadership
Established in 2007, the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) was founded as part of the Nelson Mandela Institution’s vision to create world-class centres of excellence that would strengthen Africa’s capacity in science and technology. Conceived as a Pan-African university, AUST was established in response to a call by African leaders to develop institutions capable of producing highly skilled scientists, engineers, and innovators who can contribute to the continent’s sustainable development.
Located in Abuja, Nigeria, AUST provides advanced education and conducts research that addresses both regional and global challenges. The university attracts students and faculty from across Africa and collaborates with international academic and research institutions to deliver high-quality education and impactful research.
NMI's First Centre of Excellence
As the first institution established within the AIST Network, AUST plays a strategic role in advancing the Nelson Mandela Institution’s mission of strengthening higher education and scientific research across Africa.
